Course Updates

April 9th Turf Talk

Andrew Buchholz, Superintendent

Welcome back to the golf season at the Ortonville Golf Course.  The course is officially open for the 2015 season with all 18 holes open with no cart restrictions.  The greens were mowed yesterday and they look great for this time of year.  I anticipate the course greening up and recovering nicely with the warmer weather that is forecasted over the next two weeks.  During your round you will notice black and white poles in the center of the fairways; these poles indicate 150 yards to the center of the greens.  I hope that these poles will give everyone a great visual to keep your tee shots in the center of the fairways and also help with pace of play this year.  On holes 1,7,8,9 you will also see orange tee markers and orange flags that will be utilized for Footgolf this year.  I would also like to remind everyone to register in the pros hop before your round and to adhere to all signage and traffic control placed on the course.  There are a few high school tournaments that are schedule in April.  On April 20th, 21st the Ortonville Golf Course will be hosting the boys and girls invite with a shotgun start at 10:00am on both days.  April 24th the course will also host a junior high meet at 4:30pm.  I hope everyone will take advantage of the nice weather forecasted for this week.  Finally I will leave you with this thought, 80% of all golfers will never achieve a handicap of less than 18.  So don’t feel bad about your high handicap and please never ever blame the golf course superintendent. Drives in the fairway, chips on the green and putts in the cup and have fun out on the course!
